Are we chasing the wrong targets in women's cardiovascular health? Join us for a one-hour, virtual lecture with preventative cardiologist Dr. Doreen Saltiel, MD, JD, FACC, FAARM, ABAARM, moderated by Calroy's President, Andie Crosby.
Cardiovascular health remains the number one barrier to longevity for women. Yet despite decades of aggressive lipid-lowering, the risk persists. That gap raises an uncomfortable question: are we chasing the wrong targets?
Most of us were trained on a model of vascular health the research no longer fully supports. Dr. Saltiel reframes the whole picture around the structures that actually determine outcomes: the endothelial glycocalyx, nitric oxide signaling, and estradiol as the female vascular hormone. Then she makes the case that will stay with you: female sexual dysfunction should be considered a vascular issue until proven otherwise — an early, under-recognized cardiovascular risk marker we don't screen for and rarely even ask about.

What We'll Explore
- The endothelial glycocalyx and why this fragile protective layer is where vascular resilience begins
- Nitric oxide signaling and its role across circulation, cognition, and metabolic health
- Estradiol as the most critical female vascular hormone — and what happens to the vasculature when it falls
- Why late perimenopause is a uniquely vulnerable window, and what the SWAN data reveals about vasomotor symptoms as a vascular signal
- The overlooked connection between women's sexual wellness and underlying vascular health — an early marker most of us don't screen for and rarely ask about
"Over 100 years ago, William Osler said longevity is a vascular question. A man or woman is only as old as his arteries. So let's keep our arteries and hormones healthy, for increased longevity"
- Preventative Cardiologist, Doreen Saltiel, MD
